ADVENT LESSONS AND CAROLS

Advent is a season of waiting, preparation and longing.

One of the highlights of the year at Redeemer is our annual Advent Lessons & Carols service, in which we walk the Advent journey of promises and fulfillment through Scripture reading, prayers, and music. We will gather together at 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 3rd to hear of the hope of Jesus’ incarnation.

The service of Nine Lessons and Carols emerged in 1918 at Kings College, Cambridge, as a way to imaginatively engage the season. It is still celebrated each year and broadcast to millions around the world by way of the BBC (it is carried on the 24th of December on WFMT in Chicago). Our music may vary some from the lofty choir and organ of Kings’, but the shape of the service is the same, and its message unmistakable.
