Praying through Lent

We continue to journey through this season of Lent together with times marked by worship and prayer.  Last night we gathered for our regular

service of healing prayer, especially to pray for provision in our lives and communities. It was a very encouraging time of worship (led by Christy Glick), some insights shared from the scriptures, Eucharist and praying one for another.  We prayed for the unemployed, for those who have resources to share, and for the Lord’s provision in a variety of needs.  We thank God for his presence at this vital gathering, and invite everyone to participate in our next monthly healing service, on May 4th.

Early Thursday mornings have begun with prayer during Lent, as the Redeemer community has gathered for Morning Prayer at 6:30am.  These are beautiful and rich times of scripture, prayer and silence as we follow an ancient liturgy for beginning the day.  Our final Lenten Morning Prayer will be next Thursday morning, 6:30am at Redeemer Lutheran.

Holy Week

One of the most important times of our worship year is almost upon us, as we walk with Jesus through the final week of his earthly ministry.  Holy Week is a dynamic journey from excitement, to peaceful intimacy, through death to the great surprise and exultant joy of the resurrection.  As we seek to do each year, let’s set aside as much time as possible to enter into the various worship experiences of the week.

Palm Sunday, with procession of Palms                       Sunday April 17th

Maundy Thursday                                                     April 21, 7:30pm

Good Friday                                                             April 22, 7:30pm

Resurrection Sunday (Easter)                                     Sunday April 24th

Easter Baptisms

In Resurrection we celebrate the new life of Christ, as we do in baptism, so Easter is a great day to enter the waters of the baptized life.  If you have not been baptized and would like to follow the Lord in this action, please contact Fr. Jay.  For our baptismal understandings and practice at Church of the Redeemer, please visit the following link:  www.redeemernorthshore.org/baptism.html

Rwanda Report

Pat Daley, Jay+, Todd Murphy and Dan Hanlon have all recently been in Rwanda.  Join us for a coffee hour conversation and updates on their visits following the worship service on Palm Sunday.    Grab a cup of Rwandan coffee and return to the sanctuary for a report, some photos and Q and A.
Also, today (April 7th) is the 17th anniversary of the beginning of the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Please pray for the families who have suffered loss, victims who continue to heal, and those that are learning to reconcile their deeds these many years later. This year also marks a new memorial being built in France with special programs to commemorate this tragedy, as well as many memorial services throughout Rwanda.

Prayer for Youth

We would like to remind you of the next prayer meeting focused on teenagers, schools and families with adolescents in our surrounding communities. We will gather at the Vroom’s in Evanston next Friday evening, April 15th from 7:30 – 9:00 pm. Dessert and coffee will be provided. All are welcome, you do not need to be a parent to participate in praying for youth. If you are not able to participate, but have prayer requests that you would like to share, please call or e-mail Kari: knhanlon@gmail.com847-778-8026
