Responding to Abuse: A Conversation with Rachael Denhollander and Esau McCaulley

In January, Rachael Denhollander and Esau McCaulley had an online conversation about abuse in the church, particularly in the ACNA. The conversation was about an hour and a half and covered questions including “What does it mean to be trauma-informed?”, “How do you shepherd someone who has abused others?”, and “How do you work well within Anglican theology to best protect the people you’re shepherding?” The full video is now available on Youtube and is well worth the time. It’s a way for each of us to further our knowledge around this difficult reality and to care well for everyone in our midst.

Rachael Denhollander is an attorney, author, advocate, and educator who is recognized as a leading voice on the topic of sexual abuse. Esau McCaulley is Associate Professor of New Testament at Wheaton College, a canon theologian in the ACNA, and a contributing opinion writer of the New York Times.
