Anglicanism is a Christian tradition that emerged out of the Protestant Reformation in England and has since become a global faith – now the third largest Protestant denomination world-wide.

As Anglicans, we embrace the three great “streams” of Christian tradition:

  • The primacy of Scripture as God’s Word written;

  • The sacred tradition of the historic Church through liturgy, sacrament, and episcopal polity (ordained ministry of bishops, priests, and deacons);

  • The power and work of the Spirit in our lives and our world.

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

There are people with a wide range of convictions about human sexuality worship at Redeemer. As a congregation belonging to a diocese of the Anglican Church of North America, Redeemer abides by the Jerusalem Declaration, which upholds a traditional view of gender and sexuality.

How does Redeemer handle politics?

As part of our mission (“learning to follow Jesus here and now”), Redeemer seeks to be a community shaped more by Jesus’ words about the kingdom of God than by the political frameworks of the day – even as we know that the person and message of Jesus inescapably challenges our politics too.
